Operating since 1990, the Heritage School of Music is the Jazz & Heritage Foundation's longest-running education program. The school is free and serves students ages 10 to 17 from throughout the greater New Orleans region. Classes are held on Saturday mornings and after-school on Thursday afternoons. The Heritage School of Music teaches the art, performance, and theory of jazz music.

The Heritage School students are engaged in a curriculum that includes instruction in instrumental technique (studio), ear training and the construction of musical compositions (theory), and jazz ensemble playing (combo).

Applications for the 2020-2021 school year are open now, here. Due to continuing concerns over COVID-19, the fall semester will be held entirely online.
